3/31/14

English 8:   Students were assigned Anne Frank Section 2 vocabulary words today.  After DOL/Journal, students explored the PARCC sample items for the upcoming field test Wednesday.    Students need to make sure they read through pg. 24 in Anne Frank, as there is a quiz tomorrow in class.  Homework:   Anne Frank Quiz tomorrow (pg.1-24) - Vocabulary Section 2 (due Friday) read AR

Geography 7:  Study Guide & Student Teach- Students worked on a study guide for Ch. 3 in groups.  Each group completed a "part" of the study guide, and then taught their answers to the rest of the class.  The class left with an almost completed study guide, and need to finish what was not done in class.   Homework:   Study for Ch. 3 TEST - read AR


English 7: Students were given a spelling list associated with the class novel we will be reading (Gathering Blue), and were assigned synonyms and antonyms for Monday's work.  Students worked with partners to read a short passage, summarize, predict, and write QAR questions.  This is due tomorrow along with the final expository essay (rough drafts and edits are already complete- it is just a matter of typing or rewriting it as a final)  Homework:  Summary/Predict/QAR if not completed in class - finish final essay -   read AR

English 8:   All vocab. work was due.  Students took Anne Frank vocabulary TEST 1 and finished  their additions to the character wall.   Homework:   read AR

Geography 7:  Current events were due.  Students were given some study time at the beginning of class, as well as discussion of key topics before the Ch. 3 Section 3 Quiz today.    Homework:   read AR


English 7: Students completed peer editing and worked on completing 10 word choice changes on their rough draft.  We'll work on the final Monday.   Homework:  word choice changes (at least 10) -   read AR

English 8:   DOL Quiz - Students worked on a character wall for Anne Frank for the remainder of the class.    Homework:  vocabulary (all due Friday) - study for TEST- read AR

Geography 7:  Students worked on pg. 96 for the beginning of class.  We corrected this together, and then discussed creating a foldable (from pg. 71) to use on the upcoming Ch. 3 TEST next week.  There will be a quiz tomorrow on Ch. 3 Section 3  Homework:  Study for Quiz - current event (due Friday) - read AR

English 7:  Students learned about and practiced writing a thesis statement for their expository essay, as well as an effective introduction and conclusion.  The rough draft is due tomorrow for peer editing.   Homework:  5-paragraph essay rough draft -  read AR

English 8:   We discussed the vocabulary list for this week and addressed meaning/connotation.  Students read Anne Frank in cooperative reading groups.  Homework:  vocabulary (all due Friday)- read AR

Geography 7:  Students read Ch. 3 Section 3, pg. 92-96, and completed a graphic organizer within the group.  A guided reading (3-3) was assigned as independent work (due tomorrow).  Homework:  GR 3-3 if not completed in class - current event (due Friday) - read AR


English 7:  Students learned about and practiced using hyperbole within their journal.  We corrected the QAR/Unraavel (independent) together in class.  Today's assignment is to write the rough draft of the expository essay (3 body paragaphs - intro and conclusion can wait until class tomorrow, but students are welcome to go ahead and start these).  Homework:  3 body paragraphs for essay -  read AR

3/24/14 Welcome Back!

English 8:   Students were given the Anne Frank vocabulary list today.  They were assigned Section 1, which contains 24 words.  If lost, the word list can be printed from my blog and the teacherease.com website (digital locker).  Today's assignment is to list synonyms and antonyms for 20 of the words (this is in place of the packet).   Homework:  Synonym & Antonyms (due tomorrow) - read AR

Geography 7:  Students continued giving their Alien Culture presentations.  Current events were worked on for the remainder of the class period (due Friday).  Homework:  current event (due Friday) - read AR

Geography 7:  Students started giving their Alien Culture presentations.  We will finish them after the break.  Homework:  Alien Culture project due Friday - read AR


English 7:  Students were given the class time to work on A+, AR, missing work, check online grade book to make sure they were prepared for break, and work on any assignments needed.  It was a productive day.  In addition, students were given a small creative project for the break.  Each was given a brown lunch bag.  Each student can decorate it according to "who they are."  It can include pictures, drawings, quotes, song lyrics, etc..  Be as creative as possible.  Each student must also put his or her name prominently on the bag.   Homework:  missing/absent/redo homework -  read AR

3/5/14

English 8:   We corrected and discussed the QAR passage from earlier in the week.  Students listened to the Afterward of Anne Frank, which sets up the conditions Germany was facing which caused part of WWII.  Students wrote a prediction and a summary for the Afterward.  If this was not completed in class, it  is homework.   Homework:  vocabulary review packet (due Friday) -  - study for TEST -  read AR

Geography 7:  Students started Ch. 3 Section 2, and created a graphic organizer identifying culture traits (definitions & traits specific to our culture in the U.S.A.).  Homework:   graphic organizer if not completed in class - current event due Friday- read AR


English 7:    We continued WPM assessments during DOL/Journal.  Together we started identifying QAR on the Tell-Tale-Heart passage.  We'll continue this tomorrow.  Homework:  spelling (all due Friday) - study for TEST -   read AR

English 8:   Students took the mid-semester STAR test, and then worked on DOL/Journal.  Students were given vocabulary review packet.  Instead of the normal vocabulary program, students will only be completing this packet in preparation for a review test over lessons   1-5.     Homework:  vocabulary review packet (due Friday) - read AR

Geography 7:  We discussed "push" and "pull" factors in regard to migration of people from country to country.  Students were assigned: pg. 76 #2-7. Study for QUIZ tomorrow.   Homework:  pg. 76 if not completed in class - current event due Friday- read AR


English 7:    We started our mid-semester assessments, and students completed the MAZE today.  We started WPM (words per minute) as well.  After DOL/Journal, students were introduced to the reading strategy QAR (Question-Answer Relationship).  A short activity to practice this strategy followed instruction.  Students worked in pairs to check their thinking process.  We will continue this tomorrow.   Homework:  spelling (all due Friday) -  read AR

3/3/14 Welcome to March!
