English 7:  After DOL/Journal, 7A students worked on A+ (we will resume QAR tomorrow.  7B students worked on writing their own QAR questions associated with the "Superflash" passage (due tomorrow).     Homework: Spelling 5X each - Write Your Own QAR (7B) - read AR
English 8:   After journal, students were able to work on vocabulary review.  Reading group roles and responsibilities were introduced.   Homework: vocabulary review packet (due Friday) -read AR

English 7:  Students received spelling worksheet & word list 6.  After DOL/Journal, students were assigned a Close Read of the passage "Superflash" along with an objective summary.     Homework: Close Read Superflash (objective summary) - read AR
English 8:   A vocabulary review packet was given to review lessons 1-5.  The packet will be the only vocab. homework this week, with a review test in Friday.  We will start reading Anne Frank in reading groups tomorrow.   Homework: vocabulary review packet (due Friday) -read AR

English 7:  All spelling work was due.  Students took their spelling test for week 5.  The independent QAR (Navajo Code Talkers) was also due and collected.   Homework: check the grade book for missing/absent work- read AR
English 8:   All vocabulary work was due.  Students took their vocab. test for week 5.  When the test was completed, students worked on a multi-flow map identifying causes for WWII and Hitler coming to power (from pg. 269-275).  8B will work on the flow-map Monday.  Homework: check the grade book for missing/absent work -read AR
AR will enter the grade book TODAY.  Students should be at 36% this week to be considered on track.

English 7:  After DOL/Journal, we corrected QAR "Tell-Tale Heart" together (it was collected).  Assigned is an independent QAR passage "Navajo Code Talkers."  Students should Close Read, answer questions, and identify QAR.  This is due tomorrow.   Homework: All spelling work due tomorrow - QAR independent due tomorrow - read AR
English 8:   The "Write Your Own" QAR was collected along with the "Havasupai" packet.  Students completed a Tree Map of their knowledge on WWII, the Holocaust, and Anne Frank.   Anne Frank novels were checked out to students.  Assigned was pg. 269-275 (afterward) of the Anne Frank book.  Homework: All vocab. due tomorrow - pg. 269-275 (afterward) Anne Frank -read AR
AR will enter the grade book this Friday, 2/24/17.  Students should be at 36% this week to be considered on track.

English 7:    Students were given time to finish the Close reading quiz and work on spelling. The remainder of the class was spent working with a partner identifying QAR in the reading passage Tell-Tale Heart.   Homework: - Spelling 5X each - read AR
English 8:  Students were  given some time to complete their Independent QAR passage and objective summary.  The vocabulary packet was graded and unfamiliar words discussed. We discussed writing QAR, and students were assigned to write 2 QAR questions and answers for each type using the Havasupai passage.   Homework: Vocabulary Categories - Write Own QAR -read AR
AR will enter the grade book this Friday, 2/24/17.  Students should be at 36% this week to be considered on track.

English 7:  Spelling worksheet and word list for week 5 was handed out and discussed.  Because this is a 4-day week, students may choose either definitions or sentences for this week's work (they do not need to complete both).  Tell-Tale Heart was read out loud by the teacher (3rd read), and students were to check objective summaries for corrections/additions.    Homework: - Spelling worksheet - read AR

English 7:  Students read "Tell-Tale Heart" with a partner, annotated, and wrote objective summaries.  When completed, they were able to type/re-write one poem they would like to print/publish to hang in the classroom - make it 'pretty.Homework:  ALL spelling due tomorrow before the test - pretty poem - read AR
English 8:   Students read the passage "Rachel Carson" with a partner, annotated, wrote objective summaries, and identified QAR. 8A corrected the passage in class today, 8B will correct it tomorrow in class. When completed, they were able to type/re-write one poem they would like to print/publish to hang in the classroom - make it 'pretty.'   Homework: ALL vocabulary due tomorrow before the test - pretty poem -read AR

English 7:  Students learned about and wrote Haiku poems in class.  QAR (Question-Answer Relationship) was continued and practiced as an in-class activity.  Students were given a poem with comprehension questions.  They are to answer each question as well as identify the type of QAR for each.  If not done in class, this is homework.    Homework:  spelling 5X each - QAR questions -read AR

English 7:  The spelling list and worksheet for week 3 was given & explained.  We worked further with the poetry CLOSE reading packets.  Students watched a demonstration for CLOSE reading and objective summary for the first poem.  Assigned was finishing the last two (CLOSE read & objective summary).    Homework:  poetry packet (CLOSE read & objective summary) - spelling worksheet -read AR
