4/28/17

English 7:   All spelling work was due today.  Students took the spelling test List 9.  For the remainder of class, we looked at a slideshow of photos from the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp site in Poland.  Homework: check the grade book for missing/absent work -  read AR 
English 8:   All vocabulary work was due today.  Students took the vocabulary test for Anne Frank Section 4.  For the remainder of class, a few students gave research reports presentations.  Today was the last day for presentations.  Monday will be the last day late research reports will be accepted.   Homework:  check the grade book for missing/absent work -read AR

English 8:   Students were given a bit of time to gather final research report paperwork & visual information.  Presentations were started today and will continue throughout the week, alternating reports with reading groups. Assigned was Anne Frank vocabulary for Section 4.  Homework:  Vocabulary Section 4 -read AR

English 8:   Students read Anne Frank in cooperative reading groups, as well as worked on the Anne Frank "Character Wall."  Homework:  final draft research report due Monday!  -read AR

English 8:   Students were given a demonstration for creating references, title page, and a bibliography in Microsoft Word.  They were given the remainder of the class to work on the final essay draft (due Monday, April 24).   Homework:  final draft -read AR

English 7:   After DOL/Journal, we discussed the word list for Spelling List 8 (words derived from French).   For the remainder of class, students created colorful "lesson learned" quotes from their Paper Clips response.  I was so impressed with their responses, I want to hang them all over the classroom with paper clips!  This was extra credit.   Homework: Spelling worksheet- read AR 
English 8:   Students resumed their Section 2 Anne Frank quiz (giant quiz - Thinking Maps).  For the remainder of class, students worked on their research report rough draft.  NO VOCAB. THIS WEEK DUE TO RESEARCH REPORT.  Homework: Rough Draft due Wednesday -read AR

English 8:   All vocabulary was due, and students took the Anne Frank Vocabulary Test for Section 3.  For the research report, the outline was due today at the end of class.  Students were able to work on it for the remainder of the class after taking the vocab. test.     Homework: any research report items not yet completed (signature, sources, notes, outline)  -read AR

English 8:   After Journal, we discussed unfamiliar vocabulary words and addressed misunderstandings.  After briefly going over notes requirements again (due tomorrow), the outline was explained (due Friday).  Because of AIMS testing Thursday, students will be required to complete only 3 of the 4 vocabulary assignments (may choose to skip definitions or sentences).  Homework: Vocabulary Section 3 categories - NOTES for research report (due tomorrow) -read AR

English 7:  Class started with a KTWL tree map, identifying current knowledge about Anne Frank, WWII, and the Holocaust.  Students then started watching the documentary Paper Clips.   NO SPELLING THIS WEEK.    Homework: - read AR 
English 8:   8A started watching the movie Anne Frank after a short reading group session.  8B watched a bit more of the Anne Frank movie (to the point we are in the book).  The remainder of class was spent with online research looking for sources (3 due tomorrow).   NO VOCAB.
