10/31/17 Happy Halloween!

English 7A:  After DOL/Journal, students finished listening to the audio of Rikki Tikki Tavi. Each student was given a character to create a bubble map.  The assignment tonight was the draw a picture of the character on the paper, so we can work with it tomorrow in class.    Homework:  bubble map picture - read AR
English 7B:  After DOL/Journal, students worked with partners to complete the character bubble map with a 'frame of reference.'  The frame identified who the character was in the story as well as the importance of this character to the plot.  Homework:  Finalize bubble map - read AR
English 8: After DOL/Journal, students started read Flowers for Algernon.  Assigned was a summary of pages read (in small groups), as well as a prediction for what will happen next.   Homework: summary & prediction - read AR

10/30/17

English 7:  After DOL/Journal, we listened to "Rikki Tikki Tavi" via audio.  Students are creating bubble maps of characters with text evidence backing up their descriptions.    Homework:  bubble map- read AR
English 8: After DOL/Journal, students wrote a prediction of the next story we'll be reading, "Flowers for Algernon."  Homework: - read AR

English 7A:  After DOL/Journal, students worked on the final comprehension questions for "Rikki Tikki Tavi" - due tomorrow.  Homework:  Comprehension Questions (8 total)-  read AR

 English 7B:  We went over the vocabulary list for "Rikki Tikki Tavi" as well as two sort mini-lessons on nouns and the suffix -tion.  Assigned was a worksheet practicing these skills.   Homework:  vocab. & nouns worksheet - read AR
English 8: Students completed a DOL quiz in class.  The 8B group took the Tell-Tale Heart test as well (internet was not working yesterday, so it was postponed).  Homework: - read AR

English 7:  After DOL/Journal, students started the 2nd read of "Rikki Tikki Tavi" and were assigned the comprehension questions on pg.26-33 (4 questions in all).   Homework:  Comprehension Questions pg. 26-33-  read AR

English 8: We went over the vocabulary list for "Tell-Tale Heart" as well as two short mini-lessons on pronouns and the suffix -ity.  Assigned was a worksheet practicing these skills, as they will be on the test tomorrow.    Homework: vocab. & pronouns worksheet (study for the test) - read AR

English 7:  After taking a DOL quiz, students finalized the objective summary of "Rikki Tikki Tavi."   Homework:  -  read AR

English 8: After DOL/Journal, students started writing an excerpt from the "Tell-Tale Heart" using an "alternate perspective or point of view" of one of the other characters.  This will be due at the end of class tomorrow.   Homework: Alternate P.O.V. for "Tell-Tale Heart" - read AR

English 8: After DOL/Journal, students completed the narrator bubble map by adding a frame of reference.  It was due at the end of class. If not completed by the end of class, it is considered late.   Homework:  Bubble Map if not finished in class (late) - read AR

English 8: After DOL/Journal, students worked on a bubble map describing the narrator of "The Tell Tale Heart." The assignment is to give the perspective of the reader as well as the narrator (6 bubbles/adjectives for each perspective). English 7:  Early release day due to conferences.  Student completed the MAZE comprehension assessment.  We continued with WPM (words per minute).  For the remainder of the class, students completed the 'theme' of Lemon Brown and worked in journals.   Homework:  -  read AR
