Block 1 - 8A:  After DOL & Journal, students completed the Close Reading partner activity & handout.  They were given the Independent Close Reading passage and questions as homework.  This is due tomorrow.  homework:  Independent Close Read with questions - read AR
Block 3 - 8B: After DOL & Journal, students worked on the partner close read activity in class.  The questions associated with this activity will be due tomorrow at the beginning of class.  homework:  Finish partner Close Read  questions - read AR

All Classes:  Students learned to perform a CLOSE READ, annotating, summarizing, and rereading text to gain further understanding.  Homework:  Complete #3-6 on the Close Reading text passage (due tomorrow) - read AR

ALL CLASSES:  MUST HAVE LITERATURE BOOKS COVERED!!  This will be for a grade, and is already late.  Please make sure books are covered with either the stretchy covers that can be bought, or with brown paper bag (and duct tape if preferred).   A video tutorial is available from last week's postings (scroll down)

*In class we worked on DOL/Journal, and finished the social contracts (introducing several new hand signals for classroom management).

All Classes:  We started writing the official social contract that will be posted in our class for the year.  homework: Students who are covering their textbook with paper (and perhaps duct tape) will need to complete that this weekend.  Students who did not complete their social contract form will also need to complete that in full this weekend (it was due today).

All Classes:  We finished Galileo ELA testing today.  Students also worked within their journals (free-writing and DOL).  Pearson Literature books were checked out to students.  If a student does not have a book cover at school, he or she should take the book home for covering (due at the latest Monday).  I have placed a video on my website (scroll down below this posting) to show how to cover a book with brown paper and/or duct tape. Students were also given login information for website associated with the book.   homework:  read AR, cover book

All Students:  We started the Galileo ELA assessment today.  Many students did not complete it entirely, so it will be continued through tomorrow.  Homework:  Read AR - any student who has not turned in a signed handbook form, please do so.

All Classes:  DOL (Daily Oral Language) was introduced, as well as daily journal writing.  We discussed the AR program, goals, and ZPD.  We will continue the AR discussion tomorrow.  homework: get AR parent letter signed (8A)

English 8:  We continued discussing the student handbook.  This is available online at: www.telesis-academy.org - students will be receiving an agenda with a printed version of the student handbook sometime in September (compliments of Year Book Club).   We have also discussed classroom rules & procedures.  We will be STAR testing for reading and math tomorrow.  Homework:  sign and return the brochure/student information sheet (green) & the handbook agreement form (white)

*To ensure consistency and to maintain  scheduled learning, I  purchase and supply composition books for English students so they can be used right away in the semester.   I ask in return that this item be donated back to the   classroom for use with future students.
